Douglas County Sports Medicine began with the hiring of Mike Doyle in 1994 as the first athletic trainer. Mike first worked in the physical therapy department during the morning hours, and then outreached to the high school in Alexandria in the afternoons.

It didn't take long before other area schools saw the benefit of having an athletic trainer available, and Mike was able to hire a part time assistant to assist with those schools. Shortly after that, the hospital added another full time athletic trainer and the foundation for where DCSM is today was established.

Today, the Sports Medicine Center is the leader in West Central Minnesota for sports medicine services. With a staff of 10 athletic trainers, and the most experienced Sports Medicine fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon outside of the Twin Cities, the Sports Medicine Center is committed to the active public of West Central Minnesota.
