Angie Miller completed her undergraduate athletic training education at South Dakota State University after which she obtained her board certification as an athletic trainer (A.T.C.).  She continued her education at the University of Minnesota earning a Master’s degree in Kinesiology while working as an athletic trainer for the Gophers.  Following her education, she gained valuable work experience at the University of Illinois and also taught undergraduate courses in athletic training. She has provided athletic training services for over 150 Division I athletes consisting of injury evaluation, rehabilitation, prevention, and emergent field care. Angie has had the unique opportunity to work with numerous NCAA and Big Ten Champions, All-Americans, and an Olympic medalist throughout her collegiate career.

In 2007, Angie made the transition from Division I athletics to Heartland Orthopedic Specialists.  Her previous experience made her a “perfect fit” to provide athletic training services to Minnewaska Area High School.  At Minnewaska Area High School, she works directly with the athletes providing pre-practice/game preparation, evaluating injuries, referring to area physicians, and communicating with coaches.

Angie’s expertise reaches far beyond her sports medicine outreach duties at Minnewaska Area High School.  She also serves as a SWEAT coordinator. SWEAT (speed, weights, endurance, agility, technique) is a summer conditioning program focused on teaching school aged kids proper jumping and landing technique while improving physical performance. She has incorporated a research based knee injury prevention program (Sportsmetrics) to provide area athletes with a tremendous opportunity to reduce the risk of serious knee injuries, while advancing their athletic skills. Angie instructs athletes in the areas of flexibility, plyometrics, speed/agility, and strength training.  Athletes are also introduced to the fundamentals of nutrition, attitude, teamwork, visualization and goal setting. Angie’s aim is to provide a sports training program that is challenging physically and mentally.  Angie is always happy to visit about this program.

At the orthopedic clinic, Angie serves as a physician extender conducting cast, splint, brace application, and post-operative appointments. Angie is an expert in brace fitting and brace options.

Angie’s certifications include: Certified Athletic Trainer, Orthopedic Technician Certified, Certified Sportsmetrics Instructor, and American Red Cross Professional Rescuer.

Angie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, doing anything outdoors, and trying new recipes.
