Since 1994, Douglas County Sports Medicine has been a regional innovator in bringing quality programs and service to West Central Minnesota. Our Athletic Enhancement has been around since 2000, and For The Summer 2008, we are offering a comprehensive program at Alexandria High School (click here for informational brochure) that includes SPORTSMETRICS (click for more info), and the traditional program at numerous surrounding communities. Each program is priced accordingly, if you have questions please call 320-335-6078 to speak to an athletic trainer. For more information, please continue reading below. Click Here for 2008 Registration Form.

This is an excellent program for both girls and boys! There is a low student to instructor ratio, but individual Athletic Enhancement instruction is also available by appointment. Contact Angie or Chris for more information. The athletic enhancement program will run 50-55 minutes, followed by 20 minutes of core strength training, stretching and 30-45 minutes of weight lifting for a total workout lasting between 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Workouts are every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for 7 weeks for 9th grade and up; and Monday’s and Thursday’s for 5-8th grade.

The purpose behind the Athletic Enhancement program is to develop a universal program to benefit athletes of all ages. Athletic Enhancement is designed to increase the following in the athlete:

-First Step Quickness       -Speed
-Proprioception                -Agility
-Coordination                   -Power
-Flexibility                         -Balance
-Explosiveness                   -Strength
-Endurance                       -Confidence
Athletic Enhancement (A.E.) is a component that compliments any established weight program. To be successful, a weight training program should be implemented either prior to or following the A.E. session. We recommend that the weight training be done after the A.E. session, but there is no evidence that indicates a difference in performance if athletes lift before.

A.E. utilizes many exercises and training tools, including the agility ladder. The agility ladder is a footwork training device that lets you incorporate linear, lateral, and change of direction movements. It is designed to improve foot quickness, coordination, balance, and agility.

Our philosophy is very simple. We want each person that enters this program to improve physically and mentally throughout the course of the program.

Each person in the program is trained as multisport athlete regardless of their abilities. Then as individuals improve athletically, the overall athletic program of each participating school is going to reap the benefits of having more athletic and confident athletes.
