Return To Sport Program
|
What is Return to Sport? Return to sport simply refers to an athlete returning to athletic practice/competition at the same intensity that they had prior to sustaining an injury. Following structured physical therapy, a sport-specific exercise program may be necessary for an athlete to safely return to athletic competition. Our individual, hands-on approach, focuses on the restoration of strength, power, speed, agility, and endurance to get the athlete back to competition as soon as possible and reduce the risk of reinjury that could cause the athlete to sit out longer. When should the athlete enroll in the Return to Sport Program? The return to sport program is implemented following physical therapy and before an athlete returns to athletic competition. Athletes will work directly with a certified athletic trainer to make a safe return to high intensity activities.Who should enroll in this program? This program is ideal for ANY athlete of ANY age since it is geared for each athlete’s needs and goals. We understand that every injury is different and can’t be treated the same. We always keep in mind the athlete’s age and level of competition to ensure that maximal benefit will be achieved by the athlete. How long does each session last? Each session will last between 40-60 minutes. What time are the sessions? Once registered for this program, the athlete will be assigned a certified athletic trainer to work with. Our goal is to have the athlete work with an athletic trainer who is familiar with the athletes' school and coaches. After an athletic trainer has been assigned, he/she will contact the athlete to get an appropriate history of the injury and determine a time and location to meet. What should I tell my coach? With parent consent, the athletic trainer will provide necessary feedback to the coaches to ensure that the athlete will return to athletics in a timely, yet safe manner. We believe that communication between all necessary people will facilitate the athletes return to competition more effectively. |
